Smith and Strand, Arechiga and Young advance to general election

The briefing

With about 628 ballots left to count, Chelan County's two contested primary races are decided: Commissioner Shon Smith and Clint Strand advance in District 2, and Sandra Arechiga and Marty Young advance for county clerk. Rep. Mike Steele leads the District 12 state representative race with 41% of the vote, while Democrat Maggie Adams trails at 33%. Sheriff Mike Morrison secured about 75% against deputy Stan Langlow, and results are certified Aug. 18.
