Chelan man sues sheriff's office for wrongful arrest and imprisonment
The briefing
Darren D. Hunter is suing the Chelan County Sheriff's Office, the county, Sheriff Mike Morrison and several deputies over his 2023 arrest on sex crime charges that were later dismissed. Hunter's lawsuit claims detectives received DNA evidence in March 2024 indicating he had not committed the alleged rape but did not promptly inform prosecutors. He spent about four and a half months in jail on $5 million bail and nearly 200 more days under house arrest before the case was dismissed in June 2024.
