Governor loosens laws to assist people impacted by wildfires
The briefing
Gov. Bob Ferguson signed an emergency proclamation Monday expanding disaster cash assistance and loosening state laws for people recovering from wildfires. The order provides free replacement of driver's licenses, ID cards and birth certificates, expands eligibility for state assistance programs regardless of income, and blocks landlords from acting on eviction orders for two weeks. Ferguson, who called it possibly the worst fire season in state history, said he would seek a major disaster declaration to unlock individual financial assistance.
