Omak Stampede continues 92 years of tradition
The briefing
The 92nd annual Omak Stampede ran Aug. 13-16 with four PRCA rodeo performances, a carnival, food vendors and family activities. The event began in 1933 on a high school football field with parked cars as a makeshift arena before moving to its current site and adding the Suicide Race. The Indian Encampment, hosted by members of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, carried extra weight this year as dancers gathered to pray for firefighters and families who lost homes.
