A rabbi argues that Deuteronomy 22:28-29 has been badly served by English translations that render the Hebrew taphas as "seizes" or "rapes." He shows the same word used elsewhere for handling a harp or handling the law, and argues innah, translated "humbled," describes a voluntary act as it does in the Day of Atonement fast.
