How wildfire smoke may impact HS sports in NCW this fall
The briefing
Wildfire smoke and poor air quality could again force widespread rescheduling and cancellation of outdoor high school sports in North Central Washington this fall. Districts follow the Washington Children and Youth Activities Guide for Air Quality, which restricts activity as the AQI climbs and calls for canceling outdoor events at 151 or higher. Wenatchee High School athletic director BJ Kuntz said the district limits outdoor exposure from 101-150 and cancels at 151, usually deciding midday and sometimes swapping locations with an opponent.
