Does baseball need even more technology for plays like Pete Alonso's disputed fly ball?
The briefing
Pete Alonso's deep fly was ruled foul and the call stood on review in Baltimore's 5-3 loss to the Yankees, prompting calls for more technology on balls near the foul pole. Any such system would have to be developed, tested and installed by MLB, and Hawk-Eye data is unlikely to be accurate that far from the field because the later part of a ball's path is estimated. One camera angle showed the ball left of the pole and another showed it right, with neither clarifying the moment it passed.
