Wife of fishman denied US entry for funeral

Adriana Gonzalez, the Mexican widow of Jefferson County fisherman Vincent Short, was twice denied entry to the United States to attend his funeral in Poulsbo. Short, 36, died July 30 after falling from a boat's mast in Akutan, Alaska, and Gonzalez hoped to attend the open-casket service and bring his ashes home to Ensenada. After a visa denial and a rejected humanitarian parole request, her family contacted news outlets and elected officials, and the offices of Sen. Patty Murray and Rep. Michael Baumgartner petitioned to waive the denial.
