VA adds $17B to troubled computer system contract
The briefing
The Department of Veterans Affairs added nearly $17 billion to its Oracle Health contract for an electronic health record system first launched in Spokane in 2020. The modification extends what began as a 10-year, $10 billion contract to a possible $27 billion through May 2031. Problems with the system led to thousands of cases of patient harm, including 10 the VA categorized as catastrophic, though the Trump administration has sharply accelerated its rollout.
