The sadness of a river running dry
The briefing
Jacob Richards reflects on the impending dry-up of the lower Gunnison River in western Colorado due to severe drought and upstream water diversion. As a wilderness fly-fishing guide who has spent twelve summers on the river, Richards laments the ecological toll on the Gunnison Gorge Wilderness. He mourns for future generations who may never experience the river in its natural, wet state.
