Forest Service uses Chelan airport as base for Little Giaant air support

The Chelan City Council has approved an emergency facilities and land use agreement allowing the U.S. Forest Service to utilize the Lake Chelan Airport as a base for air support operations for the Little Giant Fire. The city will receive $300 per day from the federal government, along with retail fuel sales from fire response aircraft. City administrator Laura McAloon noted that the airport previously received $450 per day under a full-use agreement in 2024.
